Join Our Community This Summer! New Course for 2011!

Students looking to advance their course work, gain credit, or learn English will find The Hun School the place to be this summer. Live at the School and take advantage of meeting students from other countries. Weekday activities, dorm life, weekend activities, and group study make boarding an option. Day students may also attend academic classes.

Courses for credit in the Academic Session are Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Chemistry. We offer preview and review classes in Algebra I, Algebra II, Biology, Physics, and Chemistry.  Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus are offered as enrichment classes. Other courses include Advanced Creative Writing, Competence and Confidence in Reading and Writing, SAT Verbal Prep, SAT Math Prep, English Literature, and American Literature. Middle School courses include Pre-Algebra, Math Fundamentals, Creative Writing, and Literature.  Credit courses meet for five hours a day and preview, review, and enrichment classes meet for two-and-a-half hours each day. An extra-help period and lunch are included. Classes meet every day, Monday to Friday, except for July 4th. The five-week program begins on June 27th and is open to students entering sixth grade to twelfth grade. We provide a morning snack and lunch in our air-conditioned dining hall.  Extra Help is available each day from 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 pm at no extra charge. An afternoon activities program is offered from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. for resident students (part of tuition.) Day students may sign up for the program at an additional charge.

Students also come to the School to learn English in a total classroom immersion program, The American Culture and Language Institute. This E.S.L. program is run by The Hun School’s International Program faculty.  This program provides classroom instruction in English and trips to American historical and cultural attractions to balance out the program. Trips in 2010 were to Philadelphia and Hershey, Pennsylvania, New York City for day trips and to Washington, D.C. for a weekend excursion.

Day students may also attend and enroll in the E.S.L. program. We offer three levels for the E.S.L. student: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Students are tested on the first day to determine the appropriate level for placement. Upper level students are given some preparation for the TOEFL examination, and some A.C.L.I. students may take academic courses after testing. Local students may also apply to continue with E.S.L. after their school year has ended. Students may live at the School or be a day student. Students must be age eleven for the program. Students who are twelve can go on the overnight trips. This five-week program begins on June 27th and runs simultaneously with the Academic Session.
