Description:
The mission of The Learning Camp is to provide a loving and nurturing adventure experience where children with learning disabilities can practice basic reading, writing, and math, and build self-esteem and independence. Since our beginning in 1996, we have grown to serve 160 campers each summer. We are located on our 35-acre ranch with a private pond, horses, hiking trails, and surrounded by mountain vistas. Over 60% of our campers return year after year to rekindle friendships and gain confidence that is so important to the child that learns differently.
The Learning Camp offers five sessions each summer, June through late August. Each session maintains a staff to camper ratio of 1:3. Our Super Sessions are designed for a smaller number of campers. These sessions are popular for those who would benefit from more individual attention from counselors and staff. Super Sessions are also great for first-time campers. We have an experienced staff of adults, most of whom are educational professionals, including many current or former teachers. We select counselors and teachers with an expertise in dealing with the issues associated with learning disabilities and learning challenges. Most of our staff members have worked with us for several summers and return year after year, just as the campers do.
