CREATIVE ARTS PROGRAM:  The Creative Arts Department is composed of four activity areas: Arts and Crafts, Woodworking and Rocketry, Pottery/Ceramics, and Photography.  Each activity area is directed by a professional artist/teacher except for Arts and Crafts which is operated by three professional artists/teachers and features more than 20 different Creative Arts Workshops including: Paper-Making, Leather Craft, T-Shirt Factory (silkscreening, batiking, tie dye, fabric painting), Painting & Drawing, Stained Glass, Arts & Crafts, Macrame, Metal Jewelry, Basket Weaving, Lanyards, Braiding, Weaving, Papier Mache, Enameling, Nature Crafts, Block Printing, Puppetry, Needle Craft, Mask Making, Bead Craft, Plaster Projects, Decoupage, Air Brush, String Art, Nature Crafts, Cartooning, Calligraphy, Stage Craft, and lots more!

THEATER PROGRAM:  Lohikan's Theater Program provides campers with professional training in acting techniques with the use of monologues, pantomime, improvisation, scenes and plays. The Musical Theater Program concentrates on acting skills, song delivery, movement, music, and dancing.  Performances are scheduled every two weeks.

DANCE PROGRAM - HIP HOP CLINIC:  Lohikan’s Dance Program features classes in: Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Modern Dance, Hip Hop, Choreography, and Aerobics.  Beginner through advanced instruction is available in all dance styles on a daily basis.  The Hip Hop Clinic is scheduled every two weeks and features a Hip Hop Performance.  Dance Recitals are scheduled every two weeks.

MUSIC PROGRAM - ROCK BAND PROGRAM:  Beginner to advanced instruction is available on a daily basis in guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, and vocals.  Specialty instructors teach the fundamentals to beginners and work on technique and perfecting the skills of our more advanced musicians and singers.  The Rock Band Program operates every day and camp concerts are scheduled every week.

CIRCUS ARTS:  Campers receive instruction from circus professionals in real live circus acts!  Favorites include: Flying Trapeze (We have an indoor and outdoor flying trapeze rig!), Rolling Globe, Lyra, Spanish Web, Acrobatics, Unicycle, Rolla Bolla, Devils Stick, Circus Bike, Hand-Balancing, Juggling, Clowning, Tight Wire, and Single/Double/Triple Trapeze, Fire eating, Magic, and more.  Two circus performances are scheduled during the summer.

MEDIA ARTS PROGRAM:  The media arts department includes: Radio Broadcasting, Video Production, Computers, and Camp Newspaper.

Camp Lohikan has been owned and operated by the Buynak family since 1957.  For over 55 years we have provided a safe, nurturing camp environment where children are encouraged to try new things, learn new skills, make friends, and most of all have FUN!

Amazing things happen when kids are having the time of their lives!  In our supportive camp community campers receive lots of positive reinforcement and come home after the camp experience with more independence, stronger self-confidence, and enhanced social skills.  It’s an experience with benefits that will last a lifetime!

What sets Camp Lohikan apart from other camps is our program and staff.  Nowhere else will you find a summer program with more challenging, exciting activities than Lohikan.  Campers get to choose from 65+ arts, sports, and adventure activities every day!  And they’re surrounded by highly skilled staff members who enjoy working with children.  At least 50% of Lohikan’s staff are experienced, returning staff members.  Our key management staff have over 200 years of combined camp experience.

First-time campers receive special attention.  Campers coming to Camp Lohikan for their first summer are assigned to senior staff members who monitor their needs and happiness on a daily basis.  Our success with first-time campers is one of Lohikan’s hallmarks and we back it up with a Tuition Refund Guarantee!

PROGRAM FEATURES

ELECTIVE INTER/SENIOR PROGRAM (5th grade and older):  Older campers participate in Lohikan's popular Elective Program.  Campers get to choose ALL of their activities on a weekly and daily basis.  It’s the ultimate in individualized scheduling!  Not only do you get to choose all of your activities... you're guaranteed to get the activities of your choice!  Imagine designing a schedule where you can specialize in as many activities as YOU want... or travel with your friends and experience every activity we offer!  It's the best!!!

JUNIOR PROGRAM (4th grade and younger):  Young campers travel as a cabin group to activities under the close supervision of their cabin counselors.  All of the arts, sports and adventure activities deemed appropriate for the age and gender of the group are included in the cabin schedule.  Certain activity sites offer electives which allow even junior campers some choice in their activity schedule!

TEEN PROGRAM: The elective program and the 65+ daily activity choices are only two reasons why Lohikan's program is so popular with teens.  Exciting evening activities, trips, and special events round out the perfect teen program.  Favorites include: Senior Lake Beach Parties, Camp-a-Palooza Rock Concerts, Senior Socials and DJ Dance Parties, Senior Trips, Senior Tiki Bivouac, Senior Movies, Senior Snack Bar & Game Room, Senior Experiment Week, and lots more! 

Teenagers who age out of the camper program have the opportunity to continue their camp experience by joining Lohikan's Junior Staff Mentoring Program.  Participants in the Leadership Training Program receive a hands-on education that includes: daily program responsibilities, child care skills training, leadership assignments and sessions dedicated to college application preparation.  Junior staff members can also participate in the camp's ARC lifeguard certification program.  Individuals who successfully complete the junior staff program are guaranteed a counselor staff position at camp.

PROFESSIONAL INSTRUCTION:  All activities are instructed by professionals and supported by a staff of college-enrolled instructors who are certified in their field of specialty.  Beginner through advanced skill levels are accommodated and, in certain activities, private lessons are available, i.e., tennis, equitation, music.  In addition to instructional classes, recreational time is provided in all activities. 

MORE FUN - SUMMER CLINICS! Clinics are special programs offered to add more value to the summer camp experience.  Each of our clinics are offered numerous times throughout the summer.  Certain clinics are concentrated instructional sessions designed to improve skills by focusing the camper's attention and energy for 2-3 hours a day over a 3-4 day period.  These clinics include: The Competitive Tennis Clinic, Beginner/Intermediate Golf Clinics, Cheerleading Clinic, Equestrian Clinic, Horse Care Clinic, High-Five Basketball Clinic and more!

Other clinics focus on the performance aspect of an activity offered in the daily program.  Participants receive special instruction and training in preparation for an exhibition or performance which is scheduled for all-camp or public viewing.  These clinics include: The X-Games Skateboarding Clinic, the Circus Show Clinic, the Hip Hop Clinic, DJ Clinic, Paintball Tournament Clinic, and the Rock Band Concert Clinic.

Lastly, there are clinics that feature instruction and experiences not offered in the daily program.  These clinics include:  Spy Camp, Survival Camp, the CSI Clinic, and the Culinary Arts Clinic.

AWESOME CAMP STAFF:  A great camp experience is only possible with great camp staff.  This is where we shine!  Our 50+ senior staff members are adult professionals who assume supervisory responsibilities in camp and at least 90% return every summer.  Our in-cabin counselors are college-enrolled staff members.  Over 50% return every summer.  Ninety percent of our staff are Americans who are recruited from all over the United States for their skills, experience and ability to work with children.  All staff members are personally interviewed, references are contacted, previous employment is confirmed, criminal background checks are conducted and detailed applications are required.  During the 7-10 day pre-camp orientation period staff members are certified in the camp's safety procedures, qualified for instructional responsibilities and receive professional child-care training to assume counseling responsibilities during the summer.

CAMP LOHIKAN'S MISSION:  Camp Lohikan is a warm, welcoming community of children and adults who come together summer after summer to experience the FUN and personal growth of "camp".  Our goal is to provide an environment of support and encouragement where children will grow outside their comfort zone and try new things.  Our program is designed to challenge every child with something new to do and provide that child with the opportunity to experience success whether it be in the arts, sports or adventure program areas.  Our staff members promote positive interactions among the campers and provide daily role-modeling of character traits we teach in camp: kindness, acceptance, honesty, good sportsmanship, appreciation, cooperation, and leadership.  The overall camp program is designed to provide the ultimate in summer camp FUN with the additional lifelong benefits of enhancing the camper's independence, self-confidence, and interpersonal skills.

MEDICAL STAFF:  Camp Lohikan's Health Center is staffed with a camp physician, five registered nurses, a health services manager and medical assistants, all of whom reside on the camp  grounds.  The camp health center is open 24 hours a day.  The health service manager keeps parents of children with medical concerns appraised of the health condition of their children while at camp.

AMAZING CAMP FACILITIES:  Camp Lohikan's campsite is one of the finest you'll find in the northeast.  We're situated on 1200 acres and located high in the northeast Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, about 2.5 hours from New York City.   The campsite is surrounded by preserved forested landscape and overlooks our private lake and miles of mountain vistas.  Summer days are warm, the nights are cool and the fresh mountain air is clean and invigorating.  It's the ideal summer camp location!
